Blog 7

1.     What modes does your text make use of?  Music, Dialogue, Image, Sounds, Color, Text


2.     Audience
a.     Who, very specifically, is the audience for your text? NOTE: It might be worth considering if you think you fall into the author’s intended target audience for the text. If not, what are the differences between how you might read/perceive the text and how the target audience might? My Audience is the people who watch the news on a regular basis in the Lincoln area.  I watch the news on a regular basis in the Lincoln area so I do believe I fall into the authors intended target audience.


b.     How does the author use pronouns like “you,” “we,” and “us?” When the author uses these pronouns who is he/she specifically referring to? How do these pronouns affect the way the author is constructing an audience?  The author uses these pronouns to address his viewers or in this case people who are watching the weather forecast on the news.


c.     How does the author construct a relationship between themselves and their audience?  The author takes more of a friendly role trying to inform his audience.  The author uses the friendly role to create trust between him and his audience.


d.     What words or phrases stand out and let you know how the author is imagining their audience? I noticed the author used folks or we a lot.


3.     Authorial Identity:
a.     How does the author construct his/her own identity in relationship to the reader?  When the author talks about weather safetly or preparedness his personality comes out of his voice.
b.     Does the author use “I” or “me”? Why? And how does this affect  their relationship with their audience?  The author never used I or me because he his talking to his viewers about the weather, the weather in this situation didn't apply to him so the pronouns I or me were never used.


4.     Purpose:
a.     What is the author’s purpose in writing? What is the author hoping to accomplish in the world with their text? How do they want people to feel, think, or act differently as a result of their text?  The author is trying to inform about weather safety and preparedness mainly about tornadoes.  The author is hoping to inform about tornado safety to better prepare citizens in the viewing area.  The author wants people to not fear tornadoes but be prepared and take action when there is one spotted.

b.     Find the sentence or two where the author first gives the indication of their argument and highlight it. Where does this fall in the text?  The author is not arguing just informing about tornado safety and preparedness.
c.     Find the sentence where the author most clearly states their purpose or argument? Where, within the text is this?
5.     Does the author make use of outside research or secondary sources? If so, how and where? No
6.     Organization:
a.     How does the author organize the text? How does he transition from idea to idea? The author organizes his text through almost kind of a single slide of a powerpoint with bullet points
b.     What kinds of words or language does the author use to connect his or her ideas together? The author uses a tone that is informative that creates a trust bond between the meteorologist and his audience.
7.     Genre:
a.     How would you define or name the genre of your text. Remember, a genre is a type of thing that reoccurs, has conventions, and uses those conventions to convey meaning. The genre of my text is a video.
b.     What are the conventions of this genre? News cast setting
8.     Images
a.     How did the author use still images (photos or drawings) in the text?  Author uses still images in a powerpoint manner.
b.     What work are these images doing to help the author accomplish his purpose? His work is creating topics to talk about or mention to make sure his audience is following along well.
c.     Are they photos, drawings, charts, graphs, etc.? Powerpoint like with Topics and subtopics
d.     Why might the author do this? To help his audience follow along better.
e.     How do these images work with the text or spoken speech around them? They help create a message to the audience

Video:
How does the text make use of movement/action? It uses a news setting to grab the audiences atttention because a news setting is usually associated with trust.
How does the text make use of lighting and camera angle? The text uses alot of lighting and a camera angle is on the meteorologist and his whole body?
What effect do these choices have on the piece? Why would the author have chosen to do this? To make the author appear bigger as more trustworthy.
How do these choices help the text accomplish it’s purpose for it’s audience? Its purpose is to inform so when the author appears bigger and trustworthy the news cast serves its purpose well to its audience.


1.Channel 6 News Weather Broadcast
2.Intended for the News watchers in the Lincoln NE viewing area.
3.-Need an opener with severe weather images along with music and a tornado siren. Make sure to create the images with a darker contrast. Text should also be involved to involve your tv station. In this case its channel 6
-Include news cast transitions.

-Create a news opener to talk about such as Tornado Safety. This should include some type of dialogue
-Then create a weather forecast for the week ahead with Temps. both High and Low and weather it will be Sunny, Cloudy or Rainy/Stormy
-Dialogue should be included in this
-Then create a closure to cut to commerical break this should include music text to convey your tv station and dialogue that should include stay tune
